NICE, France — Nashville’s Brian Baker advanced to the final of the Open de Nice with a 6-7, 6-4, 6-2 victory over Russia’s Nikolay Davydenko on Friday.
Baker, ranked 216th in the world, defeated No. 13-ranked Gael Monfils, No. 55 Mikhail Kukushkin and No. 53 Davydenko en route to the final.
Baker will face Spain’s Nicolas Almagro in the final. Almagro, the world’s 14th-ranked player, beat France’s Gilles Simon 6-1, 6-3 in the other semifinal.
Baker, who has already qualified for the French Open, which begins next week, is battling back into professional tennis after a lengthy absence that included five surgeries.
Baker will face Belgium’s Xavier Malisse in his first French Open match. The draw was announced today.
